Our Story

The HMO Mortgage Broker was founded in 2013 by David Sampson, a mortgage adviser who recognised that landlords with Houses in Multiple Occupation were consistently underserved by the mainstream mortgage market. HMO properties — rented to three or more unrelated tenants — face a more complex lending landscape than standard buy-to-let, and most high-street brokers simply lack the specialist knowledge to navigate it effectively.

David built a team of advisers who focus exclusively on HMO finance. That single-minded specialisation means we understand the nuances that matter: licensing requirements, room-by-room rental valuations, Article 4 directions, minimum room sizes, and the lender appetite for different property types and borrower profiles.

Today we work with over 30 specialist lenders — many of whom do not deal directly with borrowers — giving our clients access to rates and criteria unavailable on the open market.
